Grade 6 must read one novel to complement
our study of history for the coming school
year. The novel is listed below with the
required assignment.
A Way of His Own by Thomas A. Dyer

Reading the Required Novel
- Keep a journal* of all (at
least 15) words that are unfamiliar to
you and the definition of these words.
Copy the sentence that the word is
used in, from the novel, and the page
number on which it is found.
- Write a summary of each (or
every other) chapter. This should not
be more than one or two
sentences. Describe some action,
journey, or character development in
the chapter.
- Pick a character: Why did you like
him or her? Write a paragraph to
explain.
*To create your journal, you may staple
several pieces of paper together and keep
these papers in a folder or you
may keep all of your reading work in a
single subject spiral notebook.
Summer reading assignment is due by the
end of the first week of school in the fall.
