My partner and I How we move in space
Grade-Specific
Characteristics
At this stage students explore movement patterns with
a partner to define movement in relation to another
person, shape, or group. They learn by continuing to
experience a variety of modalities, including kinesthetic
learning. Since the students are highly flexible in
interacting with partners, activities should encourage
changes of partners. In the application of rules,
fairness at this stage is flexible, and children are
likely to make up their own rules as they play together.
Grade-Specific
Learning Goals
This is only a sample of some of the primary goals
that we have for this grade.
- Move backwards and
change direction quickly and safely without
falling
- Jump and land,
using a combination of one- and two-foot
take-offs and landings
- Throw a ball hard,
demonstrating on overhand technique, a side
orientation, and opposition
- Jump a self-turned
rope repeatedly
- Skip, hop, gallop,
and slide
- Demonstrate skills
of chasing, fleeing and dodging to avoid others
- Combines locomotor
patterns in time to music
- Strikes a ball
repeatedly with a paddle
- Balances,
demonstrating momentary stillness, in symmetrical
and nonsymmetrical shapes on a variety of body
parts
In the Physical
Education class, as in life, children learn, develop, and
perform at different rates as they grow and mature. While
the Physical Education Department has grade-specific
learning goals we also recognize these individual
differences and, while challenging, it is our goal to
teach each student at the level that they are ready and
prepared for.
General Physical
Education Objectives
Physical Education classes will prepare students to
receive proper guidance and instruction in sports-related
activities, as well as introducing benefits of health and
nutrition, in order to make physical fitness a lifetime
choice.
This will be
accomplished by students developing basic motor skills,
coordination, body awareness, physical fitness testing,
stretching, and skill instruction of various traditional
and non-traditional sports and games. Emphasis in the
classroom will be placed on respect of self and others,
individual and teamwork accomplishments, skill
development and positive sportsmanship.
Grading
Students will be assessed a grade primarily based on
their Dress, Participation, Conduct & Cooperation,
and number of Absences.
